In a mere fifty years we have been steered from the Empire of Production to the Empire of Consumption- from the Empire of Credit to the Empire of Debt. We were the Land of Abundance. Now we are the Land of Lack. How silly. How frivolous. How wasteful and shameful. Yet we are not here to curse the darkness, but to light a candle. We shall produce again – wisely and for great abundance – the best educated citizenry in the world, the healthiest populace, a new and sustainable energy and transportation infrastructure, smart, green molecular manufacturing – all to our enduring credit and benefit, engendering the gratitude and indebtedness of the whole world for generations to come. This is our National Optimists Party platform – a plan to at once regain our place and legitimize our legacy as the last great hope of earth.
